CULTURAL EVENTS IN THE CASTLE
A number of different cultural and social events take place in the castle park and elsewhere, enlivening the scene under the centuries-old linden trees.

The first cultural events were put on by the castle soon after it was opened to the public, in the summer of 1998. The first play to be performed in the courtyard was Machiavelli's comedy "Mandragora", put on by the Southern Bohemian Theatre from České Budějovice under the direction of Jiří Menzel. This was followed by Euripides' play "Iphigenia at Aulis", directed by Jan Kačer.

Since then many different cultural events have taken place throughout the summer season in the exceptionally attractive interior and exterior settings of the castle, including plays, concerts of all types of music, film showings, Renaissance festivities, and many others.

The largest cultural event is the jazz festival JazzFe, which is held in Bechyně castle every year in mid-July.
